The total outstanding arrears of Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) in Peshawar circle have reached to the mark of Rs 4.91 billion including Rs 3.47 billion against the consumers of the de facto tribal area of Shabqadar in District Charsadda. Addressing a press conference here at Peshawar Press Club (PPC) on Thursday that the total supply of power to the de facto tribal area is Rs 100 million per month while the recovery was less than one percent, he said.

Similarly, he said the total power supply to the Regi area was Rs 0.80 million per month having zero percent recovery. The total arrears of Peshawar Circle on the 25 villages of Warsak were Rs 100 million.

He further said, in the outskirts of Peshawar like Hazarkhwani, Methra and Sourizai, the culture of illegal connection was on rise and the company was helpless in installation of meters and small transformers.

The PESCO official said, Kunda culture in Brick Kilns is also creating problems for the company. He said that on punitive action, they have came out on roads to register their protest often attacked the offices of Pesco.

He said the government was endeavouring to recover arrears from them by introducing instalment-billing procedure. He said that Pesco was ready to write off 50 percent of arrears of the last five years once the defaulter agreed to submit their dues in time.

Shah said the outstanding dues urban areas were Rs 57 million and the Cantonment Rs 79 million. He added that the total arrears overdue on district Charsadda has reached to Rs 580 million, which is question of concern for the company.

The work orders of 29 mega projects was been issued and will be complete with an estimated cost of Rs 30 million shortly to overcome the load management and load shedding problems Peshawar.

In this connection, he said that the mega project of 220 kV Shahibagh grid station was launched to address the low voltage problems. The project, he said would be completed with cost of Rs 1 billion.

He said that government would construct several grid stations around Peshawar with a total cost of Rs 850 million in the upcoming six months.

The Superintending Engineer said that 82 employees of Pesco have been issued notices including seven SDO's in over billing. The government, he said will take action against the power stealers and would disconnect their power connection after failing to submit the arrears.
